Help Prevent Sunburn By Doing This...

No more tantrums, fights, or parent vs. squirmy child to get that sunblock on their face.  The sun is hot, brutal and blistering, in fact it's close to 100 degrees here almost every day in August, and there is no way I am enjoying more than 15 minutes in our Florida sunshine without sunblock and of course without sweating like I am in a sauna, and that is NOT the goal today.  I am sitting behind my bright computer screen hammering away on the keys in my gloriously cool house watching the birds outside fighting for the shade of my bottle brush tree.

This Wednesday, my friend Stacey and I and our tribe of children got together for a summer movie, lunch and some playing out in that Florida sunshine at the downtown splash pad.  My other friend, Michelle and her two kiddos joined us late afternoon at the splash pad and they got to test the new Mermaid Sunblock firsthand.

I am not joking when I say they were practically fighting each other to get to the gloriously colored and shimmery stuff, and as a mom, I would rather my kids be fighting to see who can put it on first, than fighting me to put it on...sunblock problem solved.  Even if you have a squirmy baby or little one, if you don't rub this stuff in, it doesn't really matter...unless you are trying to take beautiful glamour shots of your kids at the beach or lake...then, you know, for goodness sakes, rub the stuff in, but if you can't, no worries.  It is waterproof and DOESN'T DRIP into eyes when you sweat or get wet.  Plus, if you don't rub it in, you can see where you put the stuff.

The new Mermaid Sunblock has a glorious 19% zinc oxide solution, which is twice the regular stuff in the grocery stores.  Plus, there are no chemicals or weird stuff in the sunblock, and it has aloe vera in it too...BONUS!

Ingredients (that you can actually pronounce):
  • Unrefined Organic African Shea butter (moisturizing as heck)
  • Zinc Oxide (the mineral that blocks and reflects the suns rays)
  • Organic Almond Oil (skin soother and great for people with skin conditions)
  • Organic Unrefined Coconut Oil (the vitamin E in coconut oil soothes eczema, sunburn and psoriasis)
  • Organic Argan oil (same benefits as coconut oil)
  • Organic Beeswax (this makes the sunblock waterproof on your skin and holds in all the benefits of the other ingredients)
  • Red Raspberry seed oil (a lipid barrier that provides moisture retention for the skin, and some studies have shown it to be a promising additional protection against the suns rays)
  • Cornstarch (gives the sunblock a smooth texture)
  • Organic Arrowroot powder (gluten free and helps make the sunblock a nice smooth, soft consistency)
  • Aloe Vera Powder (rich in Vitamin E and heals skin wounds and burns)
  • Mica (a mineral that reflects light and creates the illusion of softer more radiant skin, used in this sunblock for it's color properties)
  • Essential oils (made only from nature and used to scent the sunblock...everyone at the testing expo thought the sunblock smelled a little bit like donuts, and I am totally okay with that)

If you want to totally prevent sunburn, stay out of the sun...but if you can't, put on sunblock. Mermaid Sunblock is a good choice because of the natural ingredients and SPF of 30+.
