Pit Exorcism

Why You Should Detox Your Armpits...

Your body sweats for a reason, and blocking all that sweat is not the right solution. Antiperspirants are made to reduce the production of sweat. Their active ingredient is aluminum salts which dissolve into your skin’s surface creating a barrier. It basically blocks your sweat glands temporarily and reduces the amount of sweat released. But your body is a smart machine and eventually it finds a way to get those toxic, chemical demons out, which is why sometimes you have to change deodorants and eventually you are on the clinical antiperspirant because it is the only thing that is working…trust me that was my story before I found…the lump…in my breast/armpit area.

There has also been a lot of speculation if using these type of deodorants are one of the reasons we’re seeing so many cases of breast cancer. I stopped taking my chances 10 years ago and will never use an antiperspirant again…refer back to my original and first blog ever written as to why I started making Shoogie in the first place.

My other big concern comes with the ingredients used in most conventional deodorants. This is just the short list of the ingredients that are super worrisome:

· Aluminum: I avoid aluminum salts in every possible form and have blogged and ranted about it before. It has been linked to Alzheimer’s disease and osteoporosis…and the giant lump in my armpit that started me on this aluminum free natural journey over 10 years ago.

· Propylene Glycol: A neurotoxin linked to kidney and liver damage.

· Parabens: An endocrine disruptor that interferes with our hormone production.

· Phthalates: Another endocrine disruptor that causes havoc in your body.

So, with conventional deodorants, you’re basically putting a concoction of toxic chemicals in your armpit…now, doesn’t that sound wonderful??? Enough said, before I digress into another rant…

I know what you are thinking…“I’ll just switch to a natural deodorant and my problems will be solved…” Well, if you’re like most people, you have been using conventional deodorants for a looooong time and all those toxins have built up in your armpits…crazy right???

So the solution:
Detox your armpits from all those years of very questionable deodorants before using Shoogie natural deodorant.

These are some of the signs that you need an armpit detox:

1. Your armpits are super smelly.

We’re not talking about a natural sweat odor, we are talking a FUNK, a nauseous, oniony, sweaty, stank, gym workout for three days in the same clothes au natural kind of funk…The build-up of toxic chemicals may be the reason why your armpits have a strong odor.

Sometimes when you use a natural deodorant, you will notice your armpits smell bad after a few hours. Turns out, this mostly happens because of the toxin build-up. The best way to fix this is by doing an armpit detox. Once you detox, that natural deodorant should work like a champ.

2. You’re getting a rash from the baking soda in your natural deodorant?

You guessed it, it’s probably caused by the build-up of toxic chemicals. Once you detox your armpit you will most likely be able to use a natural deodorant with baking soda without getting a rash. However, if you want to avoid baking soda all together, try the Shoogie Naughty Bits & Pits!

How to Detox your Armpits

This is the easy version of the pit detox recipe… you can make it yourself if you want to buy all the ingredients and have them on hand!

Measure out ingredients if you are making this yourself...remember do not use metal dish or metal spoons for stirring.

Ingredients:

· 1 Tablespoon of bentonite clay

· 2 teaspoons of apple cider vinegar

Or, make your life simple and get Shoogie Pit Detox (or as I like to secretly call it, “The Pit Exorcist”, because it gets aluminum and other toxic ingredient demons out of your pits.) The kit comes with a couple more ingredients than the simple DIY version above, but it makes life easy for detoxing those pits without having to measure them yourself.

Directions:

If you are doing the DIY recipe mix, in a small glass or ceramic bowl, the bentonite clay and apple cider vinegar. Make sure you use a wooden or plastic spoon – DO NOT use metal spoons or bowls since it affects the properties of the bentonite clay. Mix it well. It should look like a paste, people.

This is what it looks like before you stir them into a paste.

See how nice and smooth and pasty the final mixture is?

Once it’s ready, spread that vinegary smelling paste on your armpits baby, quarantine yourself to maybe a bathroom, or outdoor area with plenty of room for laying starfish style- pits on proud display, and leave it on for 5-15 minutes. If this is your first time doing this detox, I suggest you shoot for 5 minutes.

You shouldn’t feel anything when you have this mixture on your armpits, if it’s burning or hurting, listen to your body and go remove it… immediately! I have pits of iron, so I have left it for 20 minutes and never experienced anything other than wanting a salad with some vinegary dressing...okay that might have been too soon…no???

Once the time is up, you can wash it off with a cloth or in the shower. I did the detox before I took a shower so it washes it off easily, but I have been known to proudly display them starfish style outside on my chaise lounge while soaking up my 15 minutes of Vitamin D (AKA sunshine for the day).

After I remove all the bentonite clay mixture and my armpits are dry, I apply the Shoogie natural Deodorant. As always, when doing any type of detox, make sure you drink plenty of water to help your body detox faster…and I mean, A LOT of water…it goes a lot faster for the detox.

I can hear you asking, how many times should I detox?

My answer is: Repeat this detox until your armpits stop getting stinky. If you’re doing this detox because the baking soda in natural deodorants is irritating you, you will have to do this detox until the baking soda stops irritating you.

This detox is safe enough to do daily, but I prefer to do it 2-3 times a week, you know, because as a mom of two, “Ain’t nobody got time for that”. You should notice an improvement soon after your first application, but everyone’s body is different. Don’t set a number on the amount of times you should detox, instead, pay close attention to your body and you’ll know when you won’t have to detox anymore.

Doesn’t it feel grand to know you’re helping your body be rid of all those toxic chemicals that have built up? Have you detoxed your armpits? Share your stories in the comment section below. I want to hear about your experience.
